Universal Joints

A universal joint (U-joint) is a joint that transmits rotary motion between two shafts that are not positioned in a straight line, and allows each shaft to 'bend' in any direction. It is commonly used in shafts that transmit rotary motion and consists of a pair of ordinary hinges located close together, but perpendicular to each other. The U-joints are a key component in shafts that transmit rotary motion on aircrafts and helicopters.

Ashot specializes in manufacturing universal joints in different sizes and materials. They are most commonly used in high lift systems, where the U-joints connect the shafts that transfer the motion, and control the motion and position of the flaps and slats. U-joints are also used in helicopter rotor shafts and steering systems. Ashot is a sole supplier of U-joints to the A380 and B747 aircrafts.

In addition to manufacturing U-joints, Ashot specializes in manufacturing other types of joints, such as:
  • Plunging joints
  • Diaphragm couplings
  • Steady bearing joints
  • Articulating joints

As a vertically integrated company, Ashot uses its wide range of capabilities to manufacture and assemble HLS products. These capabilities include: machining (turning and milling), gear cutting and grinding, heat and surface treatment, assembling facilities, test benches for final inspection and testing, and 2D matrix encoding. Ashot quality approvals for AS9100B and NADCAP enable us to ship turnkey products directly to the OEM assembly lines.
